Kurti a Quintessence Of Clothing

Kurta is a long piece of clothing, often rectangular that may resemble Arabic clothing popularly known as the Thawb or Thobe. This is mainly worn by men and women across South Asia. Now a Kurti is a shorter piece of clothing that is exclusively worn by women. These days it has become very fashionable and has become a craze among the women, especially among students and working who can pair it with jeans, jeggings, leggings, and churidar. This clothing can experiment in a lot of creative ways which is the biggest reason for its popularity.

Info on Kurta

An interesting thing about the etymology of the word kurta is not very clear. It could have originated from Sanskrit, Hindi or even Persian which meant a shirt no collar. It has become casual clothing to be worn regularly.

How does Kurti differ?

Now, this is a big confusion that most people tend to face. There is no reason to get bewildered as a Kurti is shorter than a kurta. That is correct a kurta usually reaches or goes beyond the calf whereas its shorter version remains confined up to the knees or can also be waist long. These are mostly worn by women that are teamed up with a pair of leggings, jeans, dhoti pants, wrap-around skirts, long skirts and palazzo pants.

Generally, women from South Asia are seen to be sporting these more as its western version is called a tunic. Some of the countries where women are often seen wearing these clothes are India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
