Lehenga Measurement Chart: How to Take Measurements for a Lehenga
A perfect lehenga starts with the right measurements. Follow our simple step-by-step guide to measure your choli and lehenga at home, and use our size chart to find your fit.
A lehenga looks its most beautiful when it fits you perfectly. The blouse should sit snugly without pulling, the skirt should rest comfortably at your waist, and the hem should just skim the floor. The good news? You can take every measurement you need at home in about ten minutes. This guide walks you through each one, step by step, and includes a lehenga size chart to help you choose your size.
Before You Start
- Use a soft measuring tape (a tailor's tape), not a metal one.
- Wear light, fitted clothing and the bra you plan to wear with your choli, so the bust measurements are accurate.
- Stand straight and relaxed. Don't hold your breath or pull your stomach in.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to slip one finger under it.
- Ask a friend to help. Measurements like shoulder and choli length are much easier and more accurate when someone else takes them.
- Measure in inches and note every number down as you go.
Choli (Blouse) Measurements
1. Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level across your back and under your arms.
2. Underbust
Measure all the way around your ribcage, just below your bust where the blouse will end or where a bra band sits.
3. Shoulder
Measure across your back from one shoulder point to the other. The shoulder point is the bony edge where your shoulder meets your arm.
4. Armhole
Loop the tape around your shoulder and under your arm, going over the top of the shoulder and back up under the armpit. Keep it comfortable so you can move your arms freely.
5. Choli Length
Measure from the top of your shoulder, near the neck, straight down over the bust to where you want your blouse to end.
6. Sleeve Length
Measure from the shoulder point down your arm to where you want the sleeve to end, whether that is a short cap sleeve, elbow length or full length.
7. Upper Arm
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your upper arm. This keeps the sleeves comfortable and stops them from feeling tight.
Lehenga (Skirt) Measurements
8. Waist
Measure around your waist exactly where you want the lehenga skirt to sit. Many women wear it slightly below the natural waist, so choose the spot that feels most comfortable for you.
9. Hips
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
10. Lehenga Length
Measure from the point where you took your waist measurement straight down to the floor. Wear the shoes or heels you plan to wear with your lehenga, so the hem falls at exactly the right height. Always measure from where the skirt will sit, not from your head or shoulder.

Common Measuring Mistakes to Avoid
- Pulling the tape too tight. This makes the outfit too snug. Keep one finger of ease under the tape.
- Measuring over thick clothes. Bulky layers add inches. Measure over light clothing.
- Forgetting your heels. Measure lehenga length in the shoes you will wear, or the hem may end up too short or too long.
- Guessing your waist position. Decide where you want the skirt to sit before you measure waist and length.
- Rounding down. If you are unsure, round up to the nearest half inch. A little extra is easy for a tailor to adjust.
